Our story.
It all began with an idea.
We gained ownership of The Oxford Hotel in September of 2018.
By January 2019 we had completed the reinstatement of the front verandah to its historic greatness and began a buzz with the locals regarding the calibre of renovation that was about to take place throughout the rest of the building.
We began demolition of the bar in May of 2020 and the building site remained here until August 2021 when the doors of The Welder’s Dog opened.
The most notable bar renovation was the reopening of the carriageway arch at the front of the building where the horse and carriages used to travel through to the rear stables.
This is closely followed by the replacement of the entire timber ground floor with polished concrete.
Almost to be overshadowed by the installation of a glass floor over the renovated cellar below street level.
In our lunch break we removed the second storey floor in the centre of the building to create an internal courtyard and upstairs mezzanine.
The Pièce de résistance - installation of six roof windows keeping the local chiropractors busy as patrons crane their necks to take it all in.
The building crew then moved their efforts upstairs where over an ongoing period the 17 existing rooms and 2 shared bathrooms were reconfigured to result in 10 ensuited rooms, each bathed in luxury and uniquely identified by characteristics of history.
A rear verandah was also constructed reflecting the craftsmanship of the reinstated front verandah. This space would become a common area exclusive to guests of the hotel.
The work has not yet ended. Two more accommodations; a queen and a two-storey family room, will become available throughout 2023, as well as these anticipated projects.
